The last weekend of April saw the 7th Assises Internationales du Tourisme, organized and presented by the Government of Morocco in Fes Morocco. The conference highlighted the accomplishments and milestones achieved to date with the 6 Plan Azure super-resorts in Morocco.
In line with the ultimate goal of receiving 10 million annual tourists to Morocco by the year 2010, the Minister of Tourism, Adil Douiri, stressed the importance of the continued good pace being made on both Mediterrania Saidia and Port Lixus. Hotels and hotel beds are paramount to the tourism goals of the Government. Hotels offer ‘best long-term property investment’

Hotels have proved to be the best long-term property investment, outperforming the commercial sector by 32.5% over a 13 year period, according to new research from PKF.
PKF’s report, Institutional Investment In UK Hotels revealed an annual total nominal return (income and capital) of 16.3% between 1992 and 2005 compared with the 12.3% return achieved by UK pension funds from property investments overall.
Despite this performance, ownership of hotel assets by UK Life and pension funds - among the largest investors in UK property - remains minimal relative to their overall property portfolio.
Robert Barnard, head of consultancy services at PKF, said: “Hotel companies are adept at managing operations during periods of uncertainty, so despite the higher risks associated with the sector, I fully expect hotel assets to continue providing better long-term returns than other UK property assets.
“Investment funds are beginning to recognise that potential.”
He added: “In recent years the hotel transaction market has become more liquid with greater availability of larger assets and portfolios, and more transparent valuations than before.
“This is driving change within the investment community with the creation of dedicated hotel investment funds and, if the global economy remains relatively stable, I anticipate that trend to continue which should increase investment in the asset class by institutions.”
