More major development projects awarded in Morocco
news date: Friday, September 14, 2007

One of our hottest real estate investment markets continues to sizzle.  Just yesterday, the Le Jardin de Fleur developers released their latest high specification villa project at Mediterrania-Saidia while news from the Ministry of Tourism in Rabat confirms three new ambitious tourism projects in the country.

Plage Blanche, the 6th official Plan Azur coastal resort, has officially been awarded to Fadesa, the Spanish developer responsible for the master development of Mediterrania-Saidia.  Plage Blanche, a 1.2 billion US dollar project, will eventually include 8 hotels, two golf courses, a nautical club and other residential homes.

The exotic doorway to the Sahara desert, Quarzazate, will be the location of a new tourist resort featuring 8 hotels, casinos, a golf course, an aqua park, a new medina with shopping and a conference centre.   Quarzazate, an area of natural beauty has long been the home of the famous Atalas Film Studios.  Several well known films have been shot here and in the Quarzazate Draa River valley, including "Babel", "Kingdom of Heaven", "Gladiator", "Kundun", "Alexander the Great", "Sheltering Sky", "The Last Temptation of Christ", "Cleopatra" and portions of the Star Wars films.  The new resort will be marketed as a unique 'desert break' getaway with extensive spa facilities, casino gaming, gourmet restaurants and high standing hotels.

Thomas & Piron, the Belgian firm already fast at work on the master development at Port Lixus and Mogador, two other official Plan Azur coastal resorts, have won the rights to develop the Quarzazate resort in partnership with BMCE bank and Palmerie de Marrakech.

Finally, the new 200-hectare Atlas Garden project, which will include three hotels, a golf course, shopping areas and villas and apartments will be developed by the Abu Dhabi based Reem Investments.  The Atlas Garden project is situated just outside the city centre of Marrakech.
