easyJet, Europe's leading low fares airline, today makes history with the launch of its new service between London Gatwick and Marrakech, as it is the first airline to fly to Morocco under the European Union's open skies agreement.

The EU is Morocco’s biggest trading partner, so the route is also expected to help further develop business links between North Africa and the UK.

The EU began talks with Morocco in December 2005 about a new aviation agreement and the open skies pact was initiated. The EU open skies agreement is a principle which allows any EU registered airline to fly to any airport, as often as it wishes, for any price between those countries within the air services agreement. This liberalisation of the skies is part of the Moroccan Government's plans to increase tourist numbers to 10 million by 2010. easyJet expects to carry around 90,000 passengers on the route within the first 12 months.
